Coity Castle, a Grade I Listed building in Bridgend, Wales, has been a silent witness to history for over 900 years.
Originally founded in the early 12th century as an earthwork castle, it evolved with the addition of a stone keep and curtain wall in the late 12th century and had an important strategic role until the 16th century whereafter it fell into ruin.
We were appointed by Cadw based upon our heritage sector experience and knowledge of traditional trades and skills.
Our cost planning framed the capital budget for Cadw who funding this historically important conservation project.
Over 3-years of remedial works to consolidate the structure of this Scheduled Ancient Monument we provided active cost management and reporting which underpinned the financial success and governance associated with public funding.
A jewel in the crown of Welsh history
The castle’s future is now secure, and its authentic appearance has been preserved for future generations to enjoy now that; repointing, structural pinning, rebuilding sections of masonry, consolidating wall tops, inserting missing lintels, and ‘defrassing’ to remove loose material has all been completed.
A central landmark for the local community it is an important visitor attraction and wealth creator.
Visitors can once again enjoy the grounds, reflect on the romantic storied ruins and glimpse into the fascinating past of this Welsh national treasure. The setting is also a great place to get some ‘Insta-worthy-snaps’.
