Whittington Heath Golf Club

Reshaped by a vision to enhance rail connectivity

Whittington Heath Golf Club long regarded as one of the finest courses in the Midlands, and a stones throw from our Head Office in Lichfield, enters a new era with enhanced facilities and a reimagined course layout.

Appointed jointly by the club executive and HS2 we provided project management and quantity surveying services to Whittington Heath Golf Club (WHGC) on a transformative project necessitated by the High Speed 2 (HS2) rail project cutting through the heart of this historic golf course, on ancient heathland, resulting in the loss of 5-holes and the demolition of the Grade II listed clubhouse.

Over 3-years, we played a crucial role in negotiating with HS2 to crystallise the project scope and budget, ensuring equivalency principles were met. This included detailed negotiations with the District Valuer. Beyond traditional project management and quantity surveying services such as cost planning, cost management, and programme management, we also acted as lead negotiator overseeing all compensation costs, including; internal administration fees and legal costs.

Championship golf endures

Working collaboratively with club house and landscape architects, committed to maintaining the long-standing reputation and integrity of this championship course, we delivered five new holes on adjacent land whilst overcoming complex ecological challenges. Additionally, many of the retained holes were realigned or enhanced with new greens, re-modelled bunkers, and new drainage / irrigation to accommodate the extensive land re-modelling.

Today, the members still have a challenging and naturally beautiful heathland golf course and benefit from the construction of a new re-imagined clubhouse with exceptional hospitality and leisure facilities including; a restaurant, bar, locker room, pro-shop and associated car parking.
