Bromsgrove Police and Fire Station was the UK's first purpose-built multi-agency blue-light facility and marked a significant milestone in public service collaboration.
We are incredibly proud to have been involved in this innovative project, one that would shape the future of public procurement.
Appointed by West Mercia Police Authority our cost planning team helped to secure funding from the Worcestershire Capital Asset Pathfinder initiative.
A scheme established to help public services save money and leverage efficiency, by sharing multi-disciplinary resources.
Throughout the work on site, which included; demolition of derelict buildings, enabling works and the construction of an EPC B rated energy efficient building (incorporating; solar panels, intelligent lighting schemes, heating control systems, sprinkler systems, and rainwater harvesting features), our cost management colleagues closely managed, monitored and controlled the actual versus budget cost on an open book basis and provided the financial governance critical to financial stability and transparency requirements of publicly funded projects.
A key element of the local council regeneration plan was to provide a state-of-the-art facility for their community public service provision. The new combined station features a two-bay appliance room, drill tower, car breaking area, canteen, gym, and office spaces designed to accommodate approximately 100 police and 60 fire staff. The development also includes an ambulance response post,
By joining forces, the police and fire brigade have saved an estimated 20% on building costs, and cut annual running costs by up to 25%, which has had a significant positive impact at a time when local authority / local council budgets have been under huge pressure from central government.
This pioneering venture set a new standard for multi-agency collaboration and ensured high-availability, value for money, civic and community services would continue to support the local community.
