Summerhill House

Dignified living for racing’s community

Summerhill House is named in honour of Summerhill Stud reflecting the legacy of philanthropist Jim Joel and the enduring support of The Childwick Trust, one of Racing Welfare’s longest-standing partners.

This flagship scheme commissioned by Racing Homes, the housing arm of Racing Welfare, forms part of a growing national portfolio of 164 housing units aimed at providing safe and affordable homes for individuals at both ends of their racing careers, from young people aged 16–24 to those in retirement.

Our project management and principal designer teams played a key role in ensuring the scheme was delivered safely, on time, and on budget whilst  quantity surveying colleagues framed the development budget, funded by charitable donations, and managed the construction costs as well as providing essential financial governance and cost reporting to the charity board.

Royal opening for a lasting legacy

Built to Lifetime Home standards and the Code for Sustainable Homes – Level 4, the 21 dementia-friendly, fully accessible two-bedroom apartments include assistive technology, 24-hour call monitoring, and CCTV, which have enabled residents to live independently, and safely, for longer.

The project was officially opened by Racing Welfare’s president, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, underscoring its significance within the racing community which has a deep commitment to the wellbeing of the workforce, past and present.
