With funding from Birmingham City Council, the Arts Council, the Pears Foundation, Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership, and individual private donations Sense, the national disability charity, have realised a vision of bringing together a range of community and disability services under one roof.
We were appointed by Sense to manage this major new build mixed-use scheme comprising office accommodation, education spaces, hospitality and leisure facilities, a theatre, and sensory garden.
Our project management and quantity surveying teams were actively involved at project initiation and throughout concept development phases providing cost planning, programme management, and financial governance structures. All necessary to provide assurance to funders.
As Employers Agent we managed the contract and delivery of work on this constrained city-centre site with significant environmental challenges.
The outcomes of the Touch Base Pears project are transformative for people with complex disabilities, and we are genuinely humbled to have had the opportunity to work collaboratively with such a committed group of stakeholders.
The versatile use of the building supports people with learning new skills, building confidence, and engaging in community activities. It demonstrates the powerful impact of inclusive design and community-focused services including; a café, sensory garden, and performance arts space.
This vibrant hub is considered a model for future social care and community projects.
