North Arran Way Development

Revitalising North Solihull

North Arran Way was a pivotal part of a £1.8 billion regeneration programme for north Solihull.

The first of fifteen new village centres this ambitious development transformed the Smiths Wood area by creating a vibrant community hub.

We were appointed as trusted advisor to Solihull Inpartnership following our successful completion of the adjacent Kingfisher Primary School. In undertaking employers agent and principal designer [CDM-2015] duties we managed the contract and contractor activities from initial project concept, through the iterative design process, to completion on-site.

Key to the success of this complex project, which was funded in part by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), was:

  • our collaborative approach based upon effective communication and co-operation with project stakeholders, ensuring momentum was maintained, and
  • a commitment to rigorous standards of project governance, critical to the financial stability and social accountability of projects benefiting from ERDF funding.

A commercially successful and welcoming high-street

The vision of this ambitious project, years in the planning but delivered at pace, has been realised.

The redeveloped of the 1,000-acre site, forming part of a new high street, includes six retail units and a large public open space, complete with car parking, streetscape, and commercial offices.

Modern amenities have boosted the local economy by attracting businesses and visitors. The lives of the local community have also been enhanced by this welcoming public realm.
