London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine

At the cutting edge of global health research

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is a world-renowned institution specialising in public health and tropical medicine.

Appointed by LSHTM to provide comprehensive quantity surveying, project management, and contract administration services our role was to ensure that this technically challenging and highly constrained city centre project was delivered safely and within budget.

Our expertise, meticulous planning, and collaborative approach was crucial in navigating the complex stakeholder requirements of the local council, statutory authorities, London Underground, and Bloomsbury residents. Ensuring that, always, the project minimised environmental impacts associated with construction work and minimised disruption to the local and wider community.

Despite some unique challenges, including Covid related safety considerations and disruption, we successfully delivered this remarkable project. Funded by LSHTM, HEFCE grants, and philanthropic donations.

Nurturing the next generation of health leaders

Tavistock Place 2 is a state-of-the-art 6-storey facility enhancing LSHTM’s ability to conduct crucial research in global health and support the next generation of  health leaders.

Rated Excellent by BREEAM standards, its sustainable design includes cascading green rooftop terraces, a ‘blue roof’ for sustainable rainwater management, and a shiny brass exterior made from fully recyclable materials.

Dry laboratory facilities help researchers address the global health challenges by studying infectious diseases and vaccines. The flexible high-tech spaces can accommodate 200 members of staff. Communal space include; support suites, prayer rooms, well-being rooms, facilities for expectant mothers.

The global pandemic brought into sharp focus the importance of these facilities and we are incredibly proud to have contributed to a building that will be at the forefront of public health security for many years to come.
